The text of a sutra was carved into this clay tablet using a spatulalike tool before it was fired. Around two hundred tablets have been identified as belonging to this set. This tablet features part of the seventeenth chapter of the Lotus Sutra (Skt. Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra; Ch. Fahua jing; J. Hoke kyō), the “Distinction of Benefits.” The numbers six and ten are written on the upper left corner, indicating that this is the tenth tablet for the sixth fascicle of the sutra.
