The uppermost part of this helmet reaches up to pierce the sky, an element of continental helmets. On the other hand, its brim resembling that of a baseball cap is traditional to Japanese helmets. The generous use of gilt bronze sheets makes it truly resplendent. In its continental design and its use of gold as ornament, one can imagine that this helmet belonged to a figure of high status; such attire might have been a symbol of his authority.
