This is a tray for holding the special lotus petals (sange) that are ceremonially scattered at the ritual space during Buddhist ceremonies in praise of the Buddha. Bamboo fibers have been woven together to create a dish-shaped form, and lotus flower motifs have been embroidered using strips of twill damask silk fabric. The translucence of the silk invites appreciation of the bamboo’s delicate woven pattern, achieving a truly gorgeous object of subtle beauty.
