At the center of this painting, Amida (Skt. Amitābha) forms a distinctive mudra in front of the chest. Accompanying the Buddha are the bodhisattvas Kannon (Skt. Avalokiteśvara) and Seishi (Skt. Mahāsthāmaprāpta), each seated with a leg pendent in relaxed poses approaching that of royal ease (Skt. lalitāsana). The presence of Yuima (Skt. Vimalakīrti) and Monju (Skt. Mañjuśrī) facing one another in debate in front of them in addition to the poses and attributes of the Four Guardian Kings at the corners tells us that these are the highly revered images enshrined in the Lecture Hall (Kōdō) at Kōfukuji Temple.
