Gyōnen was a Kamakura-period priest at Tōdaiji Temple, a scholar-monk regarded as one of the most important figures in Japanese Kegon scholasticism. This work discusses the Consciousness-Only (yuishiki) doctrine of the Hossō (Skt. Yogācāra) sect, revealing Gyōnen’s rich knowledge into the doctrines of sects beyond his own.
