In grand letters of brilliant gold, “The Sacred Name of Kasuga” (Kasuga Dai Myōjin) floats over the path passing through the Kasuga fields to where Kasuga Taisha Shrine is situated, though the shrine itself is not depicted. In the place of the shrine buildings, these letters represent the existence of the Kasuga deities. The letters were probably written by someone of great stature, like an emperor or aristocrat.
