Enki is the name of a type of table with a round top and four legs. The legs are curved upward at the tip in the fashion known as heron leg (Jpn. sagi ashi). They were first painted with black lacquer and then finished with vermilion lacquer. Examples are seen in paintings that show an incense burner alone was placed before a Buddhist object of worship on such a table, and it can be assumed that this item was also used for an incense burner.
