A kei is a gong-like instrument used in Buddhist assemblies. Its origins go back to an ancient Chinese instrument made of stone or jade. This kei is somewhat long and rather thin and conforms to the archaic style in its chevron shape. The striking area (tsukiza) has a triple comma-shaped design (tomoe) surrounded by a band with a pearl-pattern motif.
