The flat eaves tile has a mirroring vegetal design at its center, and this is flanked on either side by floral arabesques expressing the karakusamon motif. Both round and flat eaves tiles reflect new design approaches developed throughout the course of the largescale construction efforts underway at Tōdaiji Temple.
