This variety of table, called a shoku, was placed infront of a Buddhist icon. Such tables were used tohold various implements for an offering service, for example incense burners (Jpn. kōro) and sets of utensils (ichimenki). Elegant “heron legs” (sagi’ashi) are attached to the half-moon shaped table top, under which are decorative openwork panels. This item is called a butterfly-shaped table(chōgata shoku) due to the shape of the tabletop.
