A small phial shaped weight is settled on the edge of the handle (so-called Jpn. byōchin-e-gōro). This type of incense burner with handle was applied during the Buddhist ceremony by leading priest. There is red lacquered inscription on the backside of the handle, suggesting this work was donated by the priest Chōsei in 1528.
