The edge of the single-prong pestle is shaped as a jewel. These works are originated from the ophthalmologic equipment in India and applied for the Buddhist baptismal ceremony (kanjō) to make recipients’ physical and mental eyes open. One of the batons is decorated with jewels on both ends, the other is decorated on one end.
