Eleven-Headed Kannon expressed in low relief achieved through the technique of hammered metal repoussé is affixed to the mirror surface of this kakebotoke, a hanging circular plaque-like icon. The bodhisattva is held in place by metal rivets. Kannon holds a long-stemmed lotus flower with the right hand, extending the left hand downwards. Subtly plump and with a peaceful form, stylistic features from late in the Heian period (794–1185) are exemplified by this bodhisattva.
