These are four of the set of twenty-eight deities who attend the Thousand-armed Avalokiteśvara (J. Senju Kannon). Judging from their dynamic poses, well-balanced proportions, and powerful facial expressions, these works appear to have been produced in the thirteenth century during the Kamakura period (1185–1333). It is extremely rare to find sculptures of this iconographic group that date as early as the thirteenth century.
