The gallant facial features and the majestic strength of Bishamonten’s pose strike an engaging contrast with the two demons trampled beneath his feet. The statue is regarded as the work of a Kei-school Buddhist sculptor (busshi), and the detailed pigments and designs in cut gold leaf date to the time of the statue’s production.
