A floral design sits within the pentagonal shapeof this hair ornament fashioned from the black portion of a tortoiseshell adeptly enhanced withgold and silver lines and dyed deer horn. Presumably when he chose his materials Shōko was inspiredby those found in the Shōsō-in treasures.
