This marquetry sampler displays birds, butterflies,and small flowers. Since the birds are very similar to ones found on Shōsō-in treasures like the RedSandalwood Sugoroku Board with Marquetry (North Section 37) and the Biwa (Lute) Body withMarquetry on Red Sandalwood (No. 2, South Section 101), it seems this piece incorporates results of Shōko's studies.
