This is a replica of a table used for the ritualized eating protocols at the Jikidō (dining hall) by the monks (called rengyōshū) who are secluded at thetemple during the Shuni’e rite held at the Nigatsudō hall at Tōdaiji temple. Similar to this table, Nara lacquer ware that replicates treasures possessedby the temples and shrines of Nara, such as those kept in the Shōsō-in storehouse, were frequently reproduced in Nara during the early-modern period.
