With Mt. Mikasa in the background, this painting depicts the figure of Jizō Bosatsu (Skt. Ksitigarbha), one of the Buddhist manifestations of the deities housed at the third of the Kasuga Shrines, flying towards Kasugano. Traces of a figure wearing an eboshi (black lacquered headgear) and noushi robes typically worn by nobility can be detected beside Jizō. This may have been an attempt by the artist to depict the painting's donor, or a another deity.
