This faceted box was made of leather, representing the birds holding flower sprig as well as the floral arabesque by the lacquer technique of Heidaitsu. The modeled and original leather box stored in the Middle Section of the Shōsō-in Treasure Repository was thought to be applied to the Buddhist ceremony as the offering box for the eye opening memorial in the Tōdai-ji temple in Nara.
