This batch of medieval documents comes from Kakuan-ji Temple, located in the province of Yamato (present-day Nara prefecture). This handscroll is composed of six leaves of paper recording the resolution of a dispute over land rights at this estate. The signatures of the two parties involved as well as the endorsement of Kamakura shogunate officials on the reverse insured their validity.
