A rakkei is a grand Buddhist ceremony held to consecrate a newly constructed or restored temple hall. This dedicatory text was made for the rakkei of the Five-Storied Pagoda at Kakuanji Temple. Its construction was planned by Ninshō (1217–1303), the important Kamakura-period priest who revived Kakuanji. He passed away before the pagoda was finished; the project was taken over by Shinkū (dates unknown), another priest of his lineage. Shinkū and others completed it in 1305 (Kagen 3).
