This statue was said to have come from Chōryū-ji Temple in Gujō city, Gifu Prefecture, located on the foot of Mt. Hakusan recognized as a sacred spot of the Shugendō. The both hands are clasped in prayer with reserved look, corresponding to the statue of the Kongara (Skt. Kimkara) as a young attendant of the Fud. myōō (Skt. Acalanātha). This work represents an important benchmark for considering the history of associated statues in the faith of mountain deities.
