This set of paintings includes the Mandalas of the Two Worlds (Ryōgai Mandara) and a fearsome emanation of the deity Fudō Myōō (Skt. Acala) as the Dragon Kurikara (Skt. Kulika Nāgarāja). This latter icon would have been enshrined with the mandalas of the two worlds hanging on either side of it. The set can be identified as belonging to a Tendai-sect context, in part because its version of the Diamond World (Skt. Vajradhātu; J. Kongōkai) mandala features eighty-one deities: a feature that accords with Tendai iconographic traditions.
