A fantastical vision rendered in a careful and precise brush, the sacred deer who conveys the Kasuga deities flies in on a majestic cloud from the backdrop of a gorgeous landscape: Mount Mikasa, resplendent with blossoming trees and the silhouette of Mount Kasuga in the distance. Each branch of the deified Sakaki tree mounted on his saddle extends to carry one of the Kasuga deities, here represented in their Buddhist forms (honji butsu).
