This fusatsu-type ewer, a product of Heian Japan, was modeled on the senzan-type popular in Tang China. One sees in it the process of domestication. Compared to the Chinese originals, it displays more angular shoulders causing the swelling of the body to be reduced, and the base is lower. It originally had alid, but it has been lost.
