Five-pronged vajra (Jp. gokosho) is a variety of the pronged ritual implements called kongōsho in Japanese. This variety was the most commonly sed in the Shingon tradition of Esoteric Buddhist, and there are many extant examples. As this item displays the older style of plain lotus petals and elegantly flowing prongs, it is thought to have been produced during the late Heian period.
