This is thought to be one of the Four Guardian Kings. The whole statue including the rock shaped pedestal was carved from a single block of Japanese Judas tree (katsura). It was presented a gentle appearance and the face was expressed less furious, recognized as a sculptural style of the late Heian period. Originally came from the Tōmyō-ji temple in Nara.
