The inscription at the end of this scroll indicates that it was copied by the nun Shinshō in the eleventh month of sixth year of the Tenpyō-Shōhō era (754). As it is thought that the sutra was donated to Gangō-ji temple, it is called "Gangō-ji Amagyō," (the sutra of the nun [donated to] Gangō-ji). Other scrolls from this set are also extant, such as one in the Shōgozō archive in the Shōsō-in collection.
