This is a storage chest for a Buddhist canon (issai-kyō), which was written in gold ink on indigo paper, from Jingo-ji temple. The titles of the sutras and labels of the binders that held them are written on the side of the box in vermillion ink. The box has been fashioned with metal fitting on both the box and lid in order that it can be locked. The lines of the body form a gently taut shape, reminiscent of Heian-period style.
