The two-lobed petals of the lotus flower motif on the Yamamurahaiji round eaves tiles are of the Yamadadera type, while the flattened abstracted vines on the flat eaves tile are influenced by designs developed for flat eaves tiles at Hōryūji Temple. Yamamurahaiji (an abandoned temple) is on a hilltop in the eastern part of the Nara basin. This archaeological site is known for the discovery of a stone finial during excavations where the temple’s pagoda once stood.
