This is part of the Flower Garland Sutra (J.Kegon kyō; Skt. Avataṃ saka-sūtra) from among the printed sutras produced at Kasuga Shrine and Kōfuku-ji Temple starting late in the Heian period (1185–1333). The colophon at the end of this scroll indicates that it was donated by someone named Yasuhara Tomokane in the sixth month of 1202 (Kennin 2). An image of Jizō Bosatsu (Skt. Kṣitigarbha) has been stamped numerous times on the reverse.
