These large pikes have a broad head, but the blades were never sharpened. The socket at lower portion, fukuro, of the pike was designed to be pressed over the haft, creating a formidable weapon, but here the clay of the casting molds has been left embedded within, indicating that these pikes had already become ritual objects. These pikes were part of a set of fifteen excavated from Kuroshima in the Bay of Asō, Tsu-shima.
