One of the Buddhist statues passed down at Kōfukuji Temple in Nara, commonly known as part of the “Kōfukuji Thousand Buddhas (Jp. sentai butsu).” Fifty are preserved in the Fujita Museum in Osaka, twenty at Hōtokuji Temple in Nara, and a considerable number remain in private collections. It embodies the gentle, serene style characteristic of the late Heian period (794-1185).
