This sutra has been copied on a special kind of paper known as dabishi. It is known as “Chūjōmu” because another sutra written on the same kind of paper has an inscription identifying its transcriber as Emperor Shōmu (701–756; r. 724–749) along with the sutra’s name, the Kengukyō. That one is “Ōjōmu,” and this one is
"Chūjōmu".
