This statue comes from Yoshino in Nara. The fearsome, imposing expression of Fudō Myōō, his ample belly, the rich sense of soft texture to his robes—these are all sculptural features of the latter part of the Heian period (785–1185). Do you see the exquisite designs of pigments and cut gold leaf?
