This round container with flush-fitting lid (inrōbuta- zukuri) is made of Japanese cypress. As with the Lidded Vessel with Marquetry Design of a HoopoeBird (Item 20) and the Lidded Vessel with MarquetryDesign of a Flower (Item 21), Shōko probably made this based on the technical knowledge he gained in the process of studying and reproducing the RedSandalwood Sugoroku Board with Marquetry in the Shōsō-in treasure, North Section 37.
