This container with flush-fitting lid (inrōbuta-zukuri) is made of red sandalwood. The hoopoe bird on thelid is done in boxwood, black sandalwood, and ivory and reverses the direction of the same birds on the sides of the legs of the Red Sandalwood Sugoroku Board with Marquetry in the Shōsō-in treasure (North Section 37).
