The Kōyakushō (Excerpt on Incense and Medicinal Plants), quotes scripture and other works explaining the items needed for the preparation of the altar for an Esoteric Buddhist rite, i.e. five treasures of the earth (gold, silver, pearls, etc), five fragrances (e.g. aloeswood), five medicinal plants (e.g. ginseng), and five grains (e.g. rice, wheat). This is an early manuscript copy of a 12th century original.
