This Jūichimen Kannon (Eleven-headed Avalokitêśvara, Skt. Ekādaśamukha), which is in the style of the famous statue at Hase-dera temple, stands atop a rectangular boulder and holds a monk’s staff in the right hand and a lotus blossom in the left. The Sanskrit seed characters of Jūichimen Kannon are arranged on the boat-shaped mandorla. The mountains that stretch from the bottom to the top right and the sea that extends across the background appear to represent Potalaka (Jpn. Fudarakusen), the paradise that is the abode of Kannon.
