Atop a raft of clouds, Amida Buddha (Sk. Amitabha), attended by the bodhisattvas Kannon (Sk. Avalokiteshvara), holding a lotus pedestal, and Seishi (Sk. Mahasthamaprapta), whose hands are in prayer, makes a vigorous descent to welcome a dying believer to paradise. They are accompanied by three praying monks and four transformed Buddhas (kebutsu). The welcoming descent of Amida is usually portrayed in Japan as coming from the upper left in Japan, and the composition showing the descent from theright is very unusual.
