Buddhist altar fittings, vessels for offerings, and other objects of the temple context are arrayed on tables like this one. It would have been set before a Buddhist altar or icon. The tabletop rests on long, thin legs resembling those of an egret, and the wooden frame beneath it has been intricately carved out in elegant shapes. The frame and corners are dotted with lotus flowers expressed in mother-of-pearl inlay (J. raden) at regular intervals, and motifs of mythical flowers set against backgrounds of repoussé bossed surfaces embellish the metalwork pieces set into the sides of the frame and on the foot of each leg.
