The word senzan literally means wizard’s wine cup, and it is used to describe a fancifully designed ewer used in the palace. This item has a characteristic long neck topped by a pointed drinking spout (Jpn. sendai) and a second lidded pouring spout (chūkō) at the shoulder. The low pedestal and the tapering of the body toward the base are characteristics common to ewers form Goryeo, but judging from the archaic shape of the pouring spout, it is thought to have been produced during the final stage of the Unified Silla dynasty.
