The rinpō is an esoteric Buddhist ritual implement whose origins go back to ancient India. It symbolizes the destruction of passions (Jp. bonnō) andthe spread of the Dharma, i.e. Buddhism, throughout the world by overcoming heresy. The central hub is in the shape of an eight-petalled lotus, and the expression of the eight spoke-like vajras that radiate from the center convey a powerful impression.
