Extended opening hours
April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025
- From August 5th to 14th, during the Nara Tōkae, the museum will be open until 6:00 p.m.
- Festival of the Tōdai-ji Mantō-Kuyō-e/Festival of the Kasuga Taisha Chūgen Mantōrō (August 15th), Festival of the Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri Procession (December 17th), and Festival of the Setsubun Mantōrō (“Thousand Lanterns”) at Kasuga Taisha (February 2nd) the museum is open until 7:00 p.m.
- During the period of the Omizutori ritual (March 1st to March 14th), the museum is open until 6:00 p.m. every day, and until 7:00 p.m. on March 12th, the day of the Kago Taimatsu.
In addition, there may be temporary changes to museum hours.
Holidays
The museum is closed on Mondays* and from December 28th to January 1st.
*When a national holiday falls on a Monday, the museum remains open and closes that Tuesday. In cases of consecutive holidays, the museum remains open and closes the day after they end.
Exceptions when the museum is open on Mondays: April 30th*, August 5th, 13th* and March 1-14 (during the period of Todai-ji Omizutori Ritual)
Please note that the museum sometimes closes on other days as well.

Discount with Accompanying Children
A ¥100 discount applies to adults or a ¥50 discount applies to university students, if you are accompanying children under 18 of age or high school students. The discount is available for up to 2 people per child.
Late Hours Discount
Visitors who arrive after 5:00 PM on days with extended hours can be admitted at 600yen(general),300yen(college students).
