The institute was founded in 2002 for the purpose of restoring and conserving national treasures and important cultural properties as well as conducting related research and studies.
The institute invites well-experience experts on the restoration of national treasures and important cultural properties including sculptures, paintings, written materials, lacquerware, etc., and it provides assistance and advice to restorers. In the meantime, the institute conducts related surveys and supplys the research results to the public to promote larger understanding of the conservation for artworks. The laboratory also advises to owers and custodians of cultural properties regarding the conservation procedures.
